Play Street Pioneers
Supported with a Green Grant from Shipley Town Council, our innovative Play Street Pioneers programme hopes to create hundreds of hours of doorstep play opportunities across Shipley during 2025.
Designed to hold space for parents and residents who are curious about play streets but not run one before, this thoughtfully designed programme brings people together to support and coach them through the stages of setting up a play street as well as giving them all the ‘tools’ they might need to do so. Connecting with neighbours, applying for permission, promoting and then successfully running a play street can feel like daunting steps on the street where you live, but this programme is already supporting 12 Pioneers to set up playing out sessions where they live and build their community confidence along the way.
The result? Kids safely playing out in the streets during the summer, the (driving) culture of streets changing forever as a result of their play and a new / restored web of connections made between people living on the same street. Who knows what could happen next?!

“I’ve been wanting to set up a play street where I live for years... so great to have been part of Play Street Pioneers to give me both the accountability and the support to actually make my dream happen! ”
