A Vision for Main Street

In March 2021 Street Space was commissioned by Climate Action Menston to undertake a community engagement scoping exercise and collaboratively develop a vision for Main Street, that's fit for the 21st Century.

Engaging with primary school children, parents and local community representatives we delivered creative workshops to identify the key barriers to walking and cycling along Main Street. Working with our associate designer Paola Spivach we developed a number of design options to create a more people-friendly street outside the primary school.

Menston Parish Council and Bradford Council are now taking these plans further and carried out a successful temporary trial of the scheme July 2021.

“Phillippa and her colleagues were able to capture the imaginations of 80 or so Menstonians from the outset. The event was energetic, full of pace, made the most of the conferencing technology and skilfully extracted feedback without any voices dominating or derailing the purpose of the meeting. The subsequent report was brilliantly colourful and imaginative, entirely focussed on our locality and honouring the suggestions from residents. Such a well conducted piece of work which has the potential to make a huge difference to the heart of our village.”
