Beckton Parks

Between January and June 2022, Street Space worked alongside Newham Council to engage with local communities to shape the future of Beckton Parks. The six month engagement programme was the first step towards the creation of the Beckton Parks Masterplan, a vision for 36 hectares of green space between the wards of Beckton and Custom House - including Beckton District Park, New Beckton park, Beckton Corridor, Newham City Farm Site and King George V Park.

We engaged with over 500 community members and organisations with a focus on amplifying perspectives from under-represented voices through a range of creative approaches to understand key themes and imagined uses for the green spaces. We developed a public Playbook as a way to share our learnings for the future of the parks you can view here.

“When all eyes were upon us, when we appointed you there were a lot of sceptics out there. You delivered a really great engagement exercise - we haven’t heard people saying you haven’t spoken to these people.”

— Louise Wilcox, Head of Parks and Green Assets, London Borough of Newham
