Barriers to Active Travel

Between July and September 2022 we carried out a community listening exercise in two Bradford neighbourhoods Owlet and Frizinghall to understand barriers to active travel for short journeys. Commissioned by local community group BSTA (Bradford-Shipley Travel Alliance) our research aimed to understand how people travel around (and through) these neighbourhoods and work with people to generate ideas to reduce car traffic and make it easier for people to walk, wheel and cycle short journeys.

We engaged over 200 local residents through a range of creative engagement methods including the recruitment of a local young producer, pop ups, interviews and community based activities such as litter picks and a snicket #glowup. Our report on key findings can be found here.

“It is so valuable for us as an Alliance to demonstrate that we are listening to communities and wanting to understand the barriers that people have to active travel. Massive thank you to you and your team.”
