Camden Highline

Street Space was a part of an award winning team chosen to design the Camden Highline. Working alongside James Corner Field Operations over a six month period we recruited a local young producer to support our engagement within the two major council estates adjacent to the proposed route. Our approach prioritised creative engagement to understand community perspectives with local residents who hadn’t heard of the Highline and ensured they were able to shape the ongoing design development in a number of meaningful ways. Listening to fears around noise and anti-social behaviour we tested a number of interventions within the existing public realm to respond to concerns and build local support for the project. Together we explored different lighting solutions in dark passageways that felt unsafe, built a playbook of inspirational examples of child friendly spaces with 10 year olds and gathered hopes and aspirations for the Highline from locals using our roving lemonade stand.
